Well, it’s finally here. After months of anticipation, this weekend I am finally moving into my college dorm room to begin my freshmen semester. Even though the first week is just orientation, I can’t wait to start living on campus and meeting my fellow classmates! In a radical change from my normal state of being, I’m actually feeling more excited than anxious for the adventures ahead. Today, I’m sharing my “bucket list” for this semester– aka five things I want to be sure to “check off” during my first few months of school. I’ll be living and learning in New York City, so you’ll notice that a couple of my goals are just as much city-focused as they are college-focused. It’s far from the “traditional” college experience, but I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. 🙂
// CU football game
You can take the girl out of the football house, but you can’t take the football house out of the girl! My dad is a huge football fan, so I can’t wait to embrace this childhood staple cheer on the Columbia Lions at this season’s home games. Catch me at Kraft Stadium most Saturdays this fall…
// Cook in the dorm kitchen
You all know about my love for cooking (find my adventures here), so I don’t think it’ll be too long before I confront my dorm’s communal kitchen. It won’t be the same as cooking at home, but I honestly can’t wait to whip up something something in a spare moment (ha!). Depending on how things go, I’m thinking of starting a monthly “supper club” type thing with the girls in my hall…thoughts?
// Visit every borough
It’s still a bit unbelievable to me that I am going to call New York City home in just a few short days. Aside from making the UWS my home, I’m determined to explore each borough at least once before Christmas break. First stop? An orientation trip to Williamsburg, BK!
// Get student tickets to a Broadway show
Another perk of going to college in New York is the non-stop access to museums, lectures, events, and theater. I can’t wait to take advantage of the discounted prices on Broadway shows at my campus box office. First on my wishlist, I think, is the revival of M. Butterfly coming in October.
// Run in Central Park
Okay, one last New York-themed college goal. My mom always talks about her memories doing loops in Central Park when she lived in the city (fun fact: she and her friend once jogged past Robin Williams), and I can’t wait to escape from campus for some long reservoir runs of my own.
. . .
What is your “bucket list” for the next few months? Are you starting college, too? Let me know your goals in the comments below!
