Pardon the interruption in the regular flow of traffic here on A Style Study, but I couldn’t resist the chance for an early throwback to one of my favorite moments in fashion history. Indeed, in 1937 Mrs. Wallis Simpson created a stir when she posed for Cecil Beaton in an Elsa Schiaparelli gown emblazoned with an “erotic” lobster design by surrealist Salvador Dalí. Eighty years, and Schiaparelli’s design director Bertrand Guyon’s paid homage to the legendary look in the house’s Spring 2017 haute couture collection. Fashioned in a louche Grecian silhouette and paired with pink suede heels, Look 18 was the perfect mix of old and new.
