Fashion month always goes out with a bang, and we have Paris to thank for that. Season after season, the designers of the City of Light never fail to wow with their latest creations. Spring/Summer 2017 was a particularly interesting mash-up, with some houses going the nostalgic route while others looked to the future. In the reminiscent camp sat Simon Port Jacquemus, who latest collection paid homage to his Provençal childhood. He was joined by the likes of Miuccia Prada, who channeled Ali McGraw in Goodbye, Columbus for Miu Miu, and Sara Burton, whose Alexander McQueen show drew upon the raw beauty of the Shetland Islands. Thoughts of the future came through Chanel, of course, whose technology-inspired runway show certainly got the cell phones buzzing. But it was the stunning debut of Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior- not to mention the first solo outing of Pierpaolo Piccoli, her previous partner at Valentino- that really brought the mood together. Because no matter how “classic” a venue Paris might be, it’s runways are always a reminder of potential that lies ahead.
