Confession: I’ve been eager to write this post for a long time. I got on a big reading kick this summer, and have literally been counting down the days until I could share everything with you all. Alas, given that today marks the first day of fall- aka the time when most of us are transitioning back into hectic schedules- I figured now was as a good a time as any to recommend some “me time” reading material. I don’t know about you, but I always look forward to decompressing with a good book after a long day of work. Feel the same? Check out my recap below.. you might find just what your need for your next escape.
Rather than talk about each book individually, I organized the titles by genre and used asterisks (*) for ratings. The more asterisks (okay, up to five), the more I liked the book!
Ovid’s Heroines by Clare Pollard*****
The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton*****
milk and honey by rupi kauer*****
The Secret History by Donna Tart****
:: young adult
Believarexic by J.J. Johnson*****
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell****
OCD, the Dude, and Me by Lauren Roedy Vaughn****
Future Perfect by Jen Larsen***
Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan***
Breaking Vegan by Jordan Younger*****
The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin*****
Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham*****
. . .
I know, I know: There’s a lot of five asterisks here. If I had to pick a top-top favorite, I’d probably have to go with The House of Mirth. I completely fell in love with this book, and was literally speechless when I finished it. I’m now obsessed with everything Edith Wharton, so much so that I dropped thirty dollars on a biography of her a few weeks ago. Lena Dunham’s book is definitely a close second, though, because it was one of the only books that made me LOL, IRL.
What did you read this summer? Better yet, what are you reading now? I’m currently working my way through quite a few things, so be on the lookout for a Bookshelf :: Fall coming in December!
