My Back-to-School Essentials

My favorite part of going back to school hands down, is stocking up on school supplies. Even though I don’t technically know what I need until the first day, it’s always fun to grab a few goodies just to get started. Given that this is my last year of high school (!), I thought it might be fun to share a few of my go-to necessities that I never start a new semester without. Scroll down to see my picks, and be sure to let me know your own must-haves in the comments below!

1 // The Planner

I’ve tried a bunch of different planners in my time, from the ones my school gives me to Lily Pulitzer versions and more. I got this band.o planner for my birthday, and I have to say it’s the best I’ve used thus far! There is just enough space on each day for writing down appointments and assignments, not to mention adorable illustrations (check out September’s header page above!) and fun sayings throughout. Oh, and did I mention there stickers included? Too good, my friends, too good.

2 // The Notebooks

It’s a notebook! It’s a binder! It’s a…Five Star Flex. I stumbled upon this product- which combines the layout of a notebook with the rings of a binder- a couple years ago, and now I cannot live without them. They’re perfect for a class that’s heavy on note-taking but also has lots of hand-outs and other worksheets that you want to be able to store easily. If you’re on the market for a great tool to get you through this year, I highly recommend you check these out!

3 // The Study Aid

This past year I started using legal pads for studying, often laying out my flashcards and recording my answers on the paper before flipping them over to see how well I did. This might sound a bit odd, but my theory is that I’ll be asked to recall the information in writing, so why not train my brain to react that way from the get-go? Anyways, on a trip to Target last week I simply couldn’t resist grabbing these adorable pads. Not only are they made of 50=70% recycled material, but they’re do pretty I might just find myself wanting to study.

4 // The Pens

As a self-proclaimed office supply hoarder, I love stocking up on new pens. This year, I treated myself and bought a massive collection of gel pens. Thus far I love using them for brainstorming and journaling, but I’m sure they’ll be awesome for note-taking and writing for school, as well! One caveat: A few of the pen tips dried up pretty quickly…does anyone have any tips for bringing gel pens back to life?

5 // The Post-Its

These are more personal than school-related, but I always use Post-Its for marking favorite quotes in the books I’m reading or keeping track of ideas and other concepts I want to return to. I, of course, am partial to the multi-colored collections, which you can snag at your local CVS or Target for next to nothing!

BONUS // The De-Clutterer

I find it so much easier to transition into a new school year if my space is clean and orderly, so I always try to dump any excess junk in my room in the weeks leading up to the first day. This year, a goal of mine was to find some magazine holders to organize the magazines that don’t fit on my shelves. I found the above holders at Target, and I couldn’t be happier with how much nicer they made that little corner look! No more tripping over issues of PORTER, that’s for sure…

As I said above, I’d love to know what your BTS essentials are. Do some of ours overlap, or are yours completely different?

  1. Gel pens are a must! Although I am taking an Insurance education course while working full time and being a single mother to an 8 month old turning 9 months this month, I still love buying fresh “work” supplies to pretty up my work desk. Since I’m taking a course to get my associates in IT, I have been on the hunt for “college” supplies. I’m getting the new Paper Mate Ink Joy Gel pens, since they are more “adult” than traditional gel pens. I bought a Kate Spade notebook as well. Like you said, I won’t know what I really need until I get my books/supplies for the self-study course on Thursday. It’s supposed to be delivered to my cubicle. I’ll be writing a blog post about it on Saturday, so check it out then! Thanks!
