Happy Saturday, everyone! I know you must be thinking “since when does A Style Study post on the weekend?!” Yeah, I apologize for throwing such a curve ball at you. But I promise this shake-up is for a good reason, that reason being this delicious, nutritious, and, yes, bright green smoothie.
Now, in today’s world of juice cleanses and gluten-free everything, the concept of a green smoothie isn’t exactly novel. But I think I speak for myself and others when I say that concocting your own green drink invites a host of worries. What if the fruit and greens don’t blend together well, and your drink is filled with strings of spinach or kale (#bleh)? What if the texture comes out funky? Worst of all, what if that supposed-to-be awesome smoothie ends up tasting bitter and just…gross? As someone
obsessed with who values food, I myself was not willing to risk any of the aforementioned smoothie tragedies.
So, get this: I followed a recipe.
The instructions in question came from Ambitious Kitchen, one of my favorite food blogs. Called the “Green Goddess Smoothie,” this blend involves some of my favorite ingredients- avocado, banana, green apple, almond milk- with a hearty dose of spinach. I was a little skeptical while watching all the components mix together- as you can see in the picture above, it gets green. But I had no reason to fear, for this drink was just as delectable as I hoped it would be. Sweet with a little bit of “tang” and a smooth texture (no strings here!), I gobbled it up in minutes. Topped with my favorite granola, it was the perfect start to even the dreariest of winter days.
