New Year, Clean Room

Whenever a new year rolls around, people start mentioning the infamous “clean slate.” Because, apparently, changing the numbers on our calendars is enough to give us all a fresh go at life. Personally, that idea never resonated with me. I mean, New Year’s Day is in January: I’m the middle of a semester at school, we’re in the middle of winter, and our plans for the next few weeks were penciled in before the holiday season. From my perspective, the whole “New Year’s” process is not a new beginning, but rather an interruption (albeit a fun, festive one) of the current ebb and flow.

But, I digress…

This year, all the gabbing about New Year’s inspired me to create the best kind of fresh start: a clean room. Although my bedroom wasn’t messy, per se (it rarely is: I can’t think in a cluttered space), it was definitely in need of a little TLC. So I channeled all my going-back-to-school jitters into vacuuming, dusting, and organizing, and I have to say, it was totally worth it. Not only was the activity soothing, but there’s nothing better than a fresh, clean space.

Now if only I could keep it that way…
