Food for Thought: Recipes to Get You Through Finals Week

Like I mentioned in Tuesday’s post, I’ve been under quite a lot of stress lately (I’m sure you can all relate). Yesterday was particularly trying, as I got comments back from a teacher and was faced with basically re-doing an entire assignment…by Friday morning. To say I was anxious during the day would be an understatement. When lunchtime finally came around, I found myself seriously considering just grabbing an apple and heading somewhere quiet to work. But then I stopped myself. Not only was my hunger hard to ignore, but I really needed some time to relax and catch up with my friends. So I grabbed some protein, some veggies, and chowed down.

You see, in that moment, I was the poster child for what I’ve seen going on a lot amongst my peers: once the tests and papers pile up, issues of self-care fall to the wayside. This is exactly the opposite of how it should be. It’s times like these, when you’re up all night writing, reviewing, memorizing, etc., only to wake up early and do it all over again, that you really need to nurture yourself. One way to do this is taking the time to eat healthy meals packed with protein, fiber, and some natural sugars. Because, let’s face it, who can take a math final on an empty stomach?

Below you can find twelve recipes that will do the trick when it comes to feeding your mind and body. All of them are nutrient-dense and will leave you alert, satisfied, and focused. Pick out a few and whip them up when it’s your turn for exams…I promise you, you’ll feel the difference.
