Regardless of the scope of your trend-consciousness, by now you’ve probably heard all about the septum ring. This avant garde piercing first made a splash last summer, and has since become a favorite amongst fashionistas everywhere. Proponents of the look include everyone from musicians such as FKA Twigs and Rihanna, to bloggers like Aimee Song and Vogue’s Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis.
But, popularity aside, is the septum ring the most street-friendly look? In my opinion, yes. Something one can appreciate about the septum ring is that you can choose to make it as bold or as subtle as your please. Not only that, but you don’t even have to go the needle route to adopt this trend. In fact, a majority of our favorite septum ring-wearers, including both Song and Elisabeth TNT, went the clip-on route.
Now, before I give you any ideas, I should tell you that I myself will not be dining a septum ring – temporary or otherwise. Not only is my mother 100% not on board with the idea, but I don’t think the septum piercing would be flattering on me. That said, I’m eager to hear: would you consider wearing a septum ring. If the answer is yes, will you extravagant and in-your-face à la Givenchy (see above), or will follow the lead of girls like Aimee Song and opt for a more delicate look?
