Look for Less: The Little White Dress

If there is one must-have item for Spring 2015, it is undoubtedly the LWD, or little white dress. It seems as if every designer, from New York to Paris, sent at least one of these frocks down their spring runways, and now the fashion world simply cannot get enough of them. Case point? The stunning editorial (see it here)styled by the queen herself, Grace Coddington, for Vogue’s March issue. Shot in black-and-white, the story features the very best of the season’s whites: think laser-cut beauties by the likes of Chloé and Valentino. And while it may be fun to daydream over these pieces, when it comes to finding your own LWD, most of us will have to look elsewhere. Thankfully, department stores and fast-fashion retailers alike are creating the perfect less-expensive alternatives so that you can achieve the runway look you’re coveting at a fraction of the price. Which one to choose? Follow this simple guide below:

If you’re a Louis Vuitton girl…

Channel two trends at once with this Zara piece: you’ll get similar neckline detailing, not to mention an of-the-moment 70s silhouette.

If you loved Valentino or Roberto Cavalli

Embrace the breezy nature and careful details of these frocks from Free People and Urban Outfitters, respectively. Both of them will help you achieve that ethereal mood without blowing your budget.

If Erdem got your heart beating faster…

Once again, Zara to the rescue. This exquisite number has the jewel neckline and midi length of the Erdem dress, making it the perfect alternative to the runway look.

If you’re craving Chloé

Chloé was the queen of the LWDs this season. Designer Clare Waight Keller sent a number of these dresses down her spring runway, not the least of which being the finale look seen above. To get this look for yourself, look no further than Topshop’s own nearly-identical sundress. Just toss on some gladiator sandals and you’re a dead ringer for the Chloé girl.

If you can’t get enough of Oscar de la Renta

Of course, few can resist the exquisite nature of a dress by the late Oscar de la Renta. This eyelet number, in particular, was a favorite from the house’s spring show. Not surprisingly, Zara nailed it with this top and midi skirt: you’ll get the feminine eyelet and midi length for a cost that won’t break the bank.

Hopefully this post helped you realize how to translate your favorite runway looks into more accessible styles. When it comes to the latest trends, having retailers like Zara around to offer similar pieces at lower price points certainly helps in keeping our fashion game “on point”.

Will you be embracing the LWD trend this season?
