When I was little, I had a “thing” for audiobooks. As much as I loved reading a physical book, there was something about having something read to you that made for an equally enthralling experience. In fact, I remember one particular book-on-tape that I checked out from library more times than I can remember, that’s just how much I fell in love with the story. (Of course, the amazing actor doing the reading didn’t hurt, either).
Given my history, it should come as no surprise that I have fallen head-over-heels in love with podcasts. To hear me describe it, listening to a podcast is like listening to a book-on-tape…only, it’s not a book. Groundbreaking stuff, am I right?
But, in all seriousness: I dedicated much of last weekend (the time I wasn’t on tumblr, that is) to growing my podcast library. And, after a few hours too many hours spent searching, downloading, listening, and repeating, I’ve narrowed down a list of my current favorites:
+ The Lively Show
The Lively Show, hosted by the fabulous Jess Lively (check out her blog here), is all about “living with intention”. Although not something I would gravitate towards on my own, I come away from every episode totally inspired to tackle whatever the day has in store.
+ Stuff You Missed In History Class
Call me a nerd all you want, but after listening to this ‘cast I can tell you all about the Doctors’ Riot of 1788…and then some.
+ Welcome To Night Vale
For the sake of honesty, I am going to admit that after two episodes I am still not quite sure what Welcome to Night Vale is about. That said, I’m hooked all the same.
Ever wondered what Agatha Christie was really like? Or what about the atmosphere on the set of Saturday Night Fever? Look not further then an episode of Witness to get a first-hand account. Low on time? Don’t worry, most episodes are ten minutes or less.
Have you been listening to podcasts recently? If so, which ones? I’ve got my headphones plugged in and am ready to listen…
