About two years ago, when I was still in middle school, I suddenly wanted monogramed everything. It was probably because every other girl in my grade was sporting her initials on every item from her rain slicker to her cardigan, and I was desperate to join in the trend. However, along my path to owning everything and everything with my monogram on it, I discovered what, at the time, was a tragic fact: my initials are not ideal for monogramming. To this day I am not positive what it is, but for some reason my monogram always comes out looking ill-proportioned and just plain incorrect. Alas, my unfortunate initials left me with but one alternative:
Okay, okay. I’m not positive that is even a word, but you know what I’m talking about. Despite the fact that my full three-letter monogram is a bit of a bust, my first initial, “O”, is perfectly lovely just on it’s own. And although my closet, albeit thankfully, is not chock full of O-baring pieces, I do have a few sentimental items that feature my favorite letter. Over time, I have come to appreciate initialing as a chic alternative to the monogram, and always love stumbling upon great initialed finds. Below, a few of my personal favorites!
::one:: I couldn’t resist topping this list with an item I already own. Anthropologie’s Monogram Mug was a gift for my last birthday, and I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t use it. It’s a really great, rounded square shape, not to mention really deep, making it ideal for a steaming vat of tea every morning. And, did I mention how adorable the vintage lettering is? Seriously swoon-worthy!
::two:: For those of you who love a dose of sparkle, I thought I’d include this Henri Bendel key fob. The lettering is a nod to the iconic accessories carrier’s original font, and the little rhinestones give it just the right touch of pizzaz. Those of you soon-to-be or new drivers out there are crazy if you don’t have this goodie on your wish list!
::three:: Now this is an original! It’s no surprise that C Wonder, the store that’s logo is literally it’s monogram, carries candles emblazoned with customer’s first initials. This makes a great housewarming gift (the holidays are soon to be upon us, after all…), or even a fun splurge for yourself. I myself don’t light candles in my room, but would love to have this little guy sitting on my desk just for show!
::four:: And, finally, a classic initial necklace. This one from PBteen offers an update on the tried-and-tire favorite (I mean…even Carrie Bradshaw had one) with the etched lettering, not to mention the fact that it comes in metal-of-the moment rose gold. Buying one of these beauties is, in my opinion, one of the best investments of you life. I myself own a gold initial necklace (engraved, not etched), and can honestly say that I rarely, if ever, take it off. I suggest buying one that has a delicate chain and a thin, barely-there disc for the lettering. That way it can easily play second fiddle to a louder piece or stun all on it’s own.
Do you love a good intial, or are you a monogram girl at heart? Are there any pieces you love that feature those special letters?
