Best Dressed: 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards

August 25 was quite a day in Hollywood! Last night, the biggest stars of the small screen took to the red carpet for the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. It was an evening full of heartfelt tributes, emotional speeches, and, of course, some jaw-dropping fashion moments. Below, five of my personal favorites:

Heidi Klum in Zac Posen: And just when we thought coral was going out of fashion…Heidi Klum shows up in this stunning Zac Posen creation. The undeniable Old Hollywood vibe of the gown made this an unexpected choice for the Project Runway judge, who normally favors a more va-va-voom look. (Case point: the electric blue, fringe-heavy dress she wore just a few weeks ago.) Instead, with her hair done in soft waves and some funky statement earrings, she was the portrait of an absolute lady. Bravo, Ms. Klum, bravo.

Jessica Paré in Lanvin: Last night, Mad Men star Jessica Paré proved you don’t need a ball gown to rock the red carpet. In a sea of floor-length dresses, she turned more than a few heads in her beautiful mid-length Lanvin number. The sequined top and artfully draped skirt, along with her peep toes and flawless chignon made for the ultimate awards show fashion do.

Michelle Monaghan in Giambattista Valli: Now this, ladies and gentleman, is how you pull off the thigh-high leg slit. The True Detective actress showed some skin (and those fun metallic heels), but kept it elegant with a high neckline and long sleeves. Not only that, but the crisp white color was the perfect choice for a late summer occasion. She quite literally lit up the red carpet last night.

Lizzy Caplan in Donna Kara Atelier: What kept Lizzy Caplan’s Donna Karan creation from being just another red carpet ball gown? The stunning white train, that’s what. Despite her somewhat controversial reputation, there is no doubt on my mind Ms. Caplan hushed all her critics when she stepped out in this dress.

Last night, however, she truly wowed the crowd once again in this brilliant red Givenchy dress. From the playful lace cutouts to the eye-catching neckline, it appeared not a detail had been overlooked. Now I wonder what she’ll wear next year…

What did you think of last night’s red carpet? What were some of your favorite looks of the evening? I’d love to know, so be sure to share below!
