For most aspiring designers, the idea of getting Giorgio Armani’s stamp of approval is but a distant dream.
This is the reality for Angelos Bratis, a native Greek garnering attention for his womenswear designs. He made his official debut in Paris in 2003, but his first major runway show will take place this September during Milan Fashion Week. Bratis will present his SS15 collection at Giorgio Armani’s personal venue, Armani Teatro, as a guest of the legendary Italian himself. This is the sixth season that the designer has invited a rising star to show their work at his theater. Past invitees include Stella Jean, who burst into the spotlight after presenting her SS14 collection at Armani Teatro.
It’s really no surprise that Bratis was chosen for the upcoming season. He trained extensively in both Athens and the Netherlands before launching in eponymous line. He has since established a signature aesthetic, which relies on the idea of “complex simplicity”. His FW14 collection serves the perfect example: though the a-line dresses, forties-infused tweed cape and skirt number, and Jean Harlow-esque bias cut gown appear the epitome of elegant minimalism, they were in fact executed with a complexity rivaling that of some couture pieces.
With flawless craftsmanship that rivals that of the couturiers and the approval of one of fashion’s most highly respected designers, there’s no doubt Angelos Bratis is going places. I cannot wait to see what he has planned this September!
