Fall 2014: Capes and Cloaks

If there was one thing I noticed on the fall runways this past March, it was the amount of cloaks. Many runways from New York to Milan were home to models adorned in cape-like garmets, perhaps inspired by the onset of the polar vortex. Some, like those at The Row, kept their creations minimalist and incredibly cozy-looking (below), while others opted for a more eccentric take on the classic of “Little Red Riding Hood” fame. See, for example, Valentino’s grey cape intricately embroidered butterfly cloak, or even St. Laurent’s funky leather number (both above).

Other brands, such as Thakoon and Alexander McQueen, also presented looks styled around fashionable capes. Ever-contemporary Thakoon opted for an architectural cowl-necked version, while over-the-top McQueen debuted a sumptuous fur-rimmed creation.

Either way, I certainly cannot wait to see how people choose to style the fall’s hottest piece: the cape!

  1. Great post 🙂 I’m loving the different takes on the cloak trend too – each brand has something different to bring to the concept!
