Paris Couture Fashion Week: Schiaparelli

At four o’clock this morning (fashion truly waits for no one), Schiaparelli presented its Fall 2014 Haute Couture Collection. Although designer Marco Zanini has carefully shied away from any reference to the legend of Elsa Schiaparelli in the past, the tributes were in full force today. From an unmistakable use of Surrealism (que the pigeon-print skirt and squirrel-ridden dress) to fabulously eccentric hats (my personal favorite is Look 9’s miniature witch hat with the arrows sticking out of it), this collection had “Schiaparelli” written all over it. Quite literally, in fact. One particularly memorable look consisted of a long pink coat with oversized shoulders (another key theme) with a proud “ES” emblazoned in royal blue on the chest. All I can say about this presentation is that Elsa herself would have been proud.

I’d love to know what you think about Marco Zanini interpretation of Elsa Schiaparelli’s signatures. Let me know in the comments!

Below are my top three favorite looks from the Schiaparelli Fall 2014 Couture Collection. From left to right Look 6, Look 4, and Look 5.
